The Holy Spirit: Our Comforter, Teacher, and Guide
The Holy Spirit is fully God—eternal, personal, and actively at work in every age. The Holy Spirit was there in the beginning and is here now and will always be here. From creation to the present Church age, He reveals God’s truth, convicts the world, and equips believers to live faithfully and teach others the Word of God.
The Holy Spirit is fully God—eternal, personal, and actively at work in every age. The Holy Spirit was there in the beginning and is here now and will always be here. He moved upon the waters at creation, inspired the writers of Scripture, empowered the prophets, and was poured out upon the Church. From Genesis to Revelation, He is on every page of the Bible, revealing God’s truth, illuminating His purposes, and faithfully testifying of Jesus Christ.
In the world and in the hearts of men, the Holy Spirit carries out a vital work of conviction and truth. Jesus taught that He convicts the world of sin of righteousness and judgement, exposing mankind’s need for salvation and pointing all people to the righteousness found only in Christ. Without the work of the Holy Spirit, spiritual truth cannot be understood, repentance cannot occur, and saving faith cannot take root.
In the life of the believer, He is our comforter and consular. The Holy Spirit dwells within those who belong to Christ, strengthening, guiding, and assuring them of their standing before God. He provides wisdom in times of uncertainty, peace in times of trial, and courage to walk in obedience. Through His presence, believers are enabled to grow in grace and remain faithful in a world that increasingly resists truth.
The Holy Spirit also equips the Church for teaching, discipleship, and endurance. He is our teacher, leading believers into all truth and helping them rightly divide the Word of God. Through Scripture and spiritual discernment, He shows us things to come, preparing the Church to understand prophecy, recognize the times, and remain steadfast until Christ’s return. In keeping with the call of 2 Timothy 2:1–2, we rely on the Holy Spirit to strengthen faithful men and women who will be able to teach others also—preserving sound doctrine for every generation.
