How lovely on the mountains
are the feet of him who brings good news.
Who announces peace
and brings good news of happiness,
who announces salvation,
and says to Zion, “your God reigns!”
(Isaiah 52:7 NASB)
In the spring of 1976 I received Jesus as my savior. (I was by myself, but a number of people had already told me how to be saved). Well, I immediately started reading the Bible for myself. It seemed as though the preacher of the church we were attending wasn’t saying the same things I read. A couple times I approached him to ask about something in the Bible and he would say “we don’t do that today”. Well, I just let it go because I was a young a Christian and the minister should know. But the differences were adding up and getting to be too many for me to ignore.
At the same time a desire to preach what I was getting in my own reading of the Bible, was welling up inside of me like a spring wanting to burst forth. The Lord would also on these occasions say “go to Bible school” (not an audible voice, but an inner witness), and I would argue,“Lord, if you want me to preach, just call me someplace because there is no time to go to school. You’re going to come back and take out your church and I won’t get a chance to preach”. (When I got saved, I immediately started reading “end-time-books” on Biblical prophecy, and I am thoroughly convinced we are in the last days.) But He would still say “go to school”, which was quite often and became more frequent after January 22, 1978.
Just before Christmas 1977 the pastor asked me if I would consider giving the message on “Layman’s Day” (January 22, 1978). (He also had told my mother-in-law that he could see the Lords calling on me). I said I would pray about it. I didn’t feel a leading either way so I just said “Lord you wouldn’t give me the opportunity if you didn’t want me to take it”. So I said yes and preached a message on the “gifts of the Holy Spirit” (Baptist style). My sister is a member of the Assembly of God church (A.G.), and speaks in tongues so I knew that it was not “done away” with and I told them that if it is for today, I want it.
From that day and forward I burned with the desire to preach. I was scared to death as I gave that message, but the love for preaching God’s word came into me like I cannot explain. It just grew more intense as the months went by and I kept up the same argument (with the Lord). “Just call me to a church. There’s no time to go to school”.
About this time I met a brother, and he and I would talk for hours about Jesus. He would frequently tell me about the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts. When we finally got to Act’s chapter 19, the Lord showed it to me. It is for today, and God wants us to be filled with His Holy Spirit all the time.
In July 1978 I went to an A.G. Chaplain on Fort Leonard wood. We talked a while and he said let’s pray, and the Lord spoke a “word of knowledge” through him of the things in my heart. Things that no one knew. I was blown away because I hadn’t spoken of these things to anyone, not even to my wife. I knew on the spot what the “word of knowledge” meant. He was a little perplexed by the last thing the Lord said. But I knew what it meant, and I told him about it. Essentially, it was about going ahead and going to school. Which I had not told the Chaplain about.
The first thing the Lord said, I took care of first, which was to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I received at Church. My wife received at home by herself. We presented ourselves at church before the Lord to accept His call to the ministry.
After that we had perfect peace about going to school. It was just a perfect peace of resting and “I know that I know”. We looked for about a year for a school to go to. We had peace about going to Central Bible College. We asked the Lord to open the doors if this was His will, and they opened.
I went to Central Bible College from 1979 to 1983, I earned a bachelors degree in Bible, a pre-seminary concentration and a minor in biblical languages.
While at CBC I became acquainted with Dr. David Allen Lewis an Assembly of God minister. After graduating CBC. He took me under his wings and taught me the proper way of looking at Bible prophecy. I sat at his feet learning from him until the Lord took him home to his reward on June 2, 2007 He asked me to be an associate evangelist in his “David A Lewis ministries”. I was privileged to travel with him internationally and speak with him and for him, what an honor. I greatly miss his “speaking” into my life. These are my credentials for writing the pages of this website www.able-to-teach.com . I pray that you will grow close to Jesus through the things that I write here. That you will learn more about Him, and that He will be an “all consuming fire” in your bones. But above all that, you will love him with every fiber of your being.
