What does it mean to be a true Christian? Iv’e asked a lot of people, “Are you a Christian?” These are a few of the answers they have given me.
“I think I am”, ” Well Iv’e been baptized”, “I go to Church once in a while”, “I’m a good person”, “I don’t talk about religion”, etc..”
Iv’e also asked people “what does it take to be a Christian ?” Here is some of the answers they said back to me. “Just live a good life”, “If your an American, your a Christian”, “Iv’e done more good things then bad so a guess that makes me a Christian.”
It’s interesting that people take questions like these with such a cavalier wave of the hand. Most seem to be to busy, to stop and weigh or actually consider the question. There is a time limit to our life on this earth. What could be more important than considering where you’re going to go when you die. Isn’t it time for you to stop long enough and think about it?
I don’t want to be mean. I just want people to understand what a true Christian is. Because you’re eternity depends on it. As a Christian it’s my job to evangelize as many people as I can. So I would like to explain what being a Christian really is.
For those that answered me with those questions up above. I have to say that those answers will not get you to heaven. I would like to plead with you to stop long enough and think about it. Please thank long and hard about your eternal destination. I would like to now tell you what it really means to be a real Christian. This is what the Bible says.
John 3:16 (KJV)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
This is the starting point. We have to come the way. God said to come. There is no other way. “Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life no man comes to the father but by me.” (John 14:6) After you have accepted the fact that God is right, and there is no other way, then you accept Jesus to be your savior. Romans has this to say.
Romans 3:10-12 (KJV) 10.as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11. there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12.They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Romans 10:9-11 (KJV)
that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
This is the true way and the only way, you must believe what God has done for you. No matter how good you are, you still have sin, and the worst sin of all is not believing in Jesus as the savior of the world.
When you have made this decision, find a church that preaches from the Bible. Read the Bible yourself. Live your life with the understandings that you find from the Bible. Christianity is not a Sunday suit ,it’s your everyday clothes.
I pray you’ll take what I’ve said here seriously and accept Jesus to be your savior, because I want as many people as possible to be in heaven. Your other choice is hell and that’s not a place you want to be. Only Jesus can save you from that place, except him today. A simple prayer like “Jesus please be my savior”, and then serve him with all your heart. That is all it takes. You cannot work your way to heaven only coming God’s way is the right way.
