Jesus the Son in the Trinity

God gave many prophecies on how the Jewish Messiah would come into the world. He even gave the exact day that He would enter Jerusalem, but the religious people were to involved in their legalism to see that event. We will now look at why Jesus came into the world, and what His purpose was. We will see prophecy about Jesus given in the Old Testament and then it’s fulfillment, and then finally, Who Jesus is.

Isaiah 9:6 (KJV) (Please read the whole chapter)

6. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 7:14 (ESV)  (Please read the whole chapter)

14. Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

The fulfillment of these prophecies.

Matthew 1:18-24 (ESV)  (Please read the whole chapter)

18. Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

23. “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel

(which means, God with us). 24. When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25. but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.

Jesus is the fulfillment of these prophecies in Isaiah 7:14; 9:6 but the religious leaders did not see it. In Daniel chapter 9:24-26, it gives us the very date that Jesus would come into Jerusalem and Zechariah 9:9 tells us how He comes into Jerusalem. Riding on a donkey to show that He was they’re coming Messiah. He would be the One to take away the sins of the whole world, if we only believe. These are prophecies given to the Jewish people but their religious leaders didn’t see it. Some of the ordinary people saw the fulfillment, but the religious leaders who should have seen it, after all, they were educated in the law of Moses and knew what the prophets said.

Daniel 9:24-26 (KJV) (Please read the whole chapter)

24. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. 25. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. 26. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Zechariah 9:9 (ESV) (Please read the whole chapter)

9. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

The fulfillment;

Matthew 21:5-11 (ESV) (Please read the whole chapter)

5.“Say to the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your king is coming to you,
humble, and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

6. The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. 7. They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. 8. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 10. And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11. And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

Now Who is Jesus the Son?

Isaiah 9:6 (ESV) (Please read the whole chapter)

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 tells us in the Old Testament Who He is. It plainly says He is God, a manifestation of the Father. He is the second Person of the Trinity of God. Remember God the Father is Spirit and we as people can not see His Face because of how Holy He is, that would destroy us. So in order for the Father to have fellowship with His creation He come as one of us to redeem us.

Remember in the garden of Eden He communed with Adam and Eve as a “theophany” of Jesus. But God wanted to redeem mankind after the fall, so His plain was to come as a Person and give Himself as the payment for sin (Hebrews 1:1-14). In the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Jesus is very clear about Who He is and what He come to do.

John 14:5-11 (ESV) (Please read the whole chapter)

5. Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

8. Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9. Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10. Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.

Jesus is very specific about Who He is, God is ONE and He has chosen to reveal Himself as the TRINITY. Jesus tells us here in Mark 10:45 what His mission is.

His Mission.

Mark 10:45 (ESV) (Please read the whole chapter)

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Jesus know what He come to do from the beginning of His ministry. He came to show us Who God the Father is and to die for the sins of the world. This is our God, if you will except what He did through what Jesus did on the cross you will become one of those that will live in eternity with Him, forever!
