Slow of Heart to Believe
Luke 24:25-27 (ESV) (Please read the whole chapter)
25. And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26. Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27. And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
When this event happened, the only Scriptures available was what we refer to as the Old Testament, which is enough. It was in these scriptures and these alone that Jesus showed them what was written about Himself. We can still see these same scriptures today, but we also have the further revealed mystery of the Church in the New Testament. So we are with out excuse, not to believe what is written.
Hebrews 11:6 says (KJV) (Please read the whole chapter)
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Believing the Bible is not difficult, there is an abundance of evidence to show us how true it is. Hebrews 11 is a great place to start reading about people in the Bible. They show us how to have faith and what it looked like in their lives. If you believe the things written there, then you to, have faith.
We are living in the last part of the “last days” (Acts 2) (Please read the whole chapter). Most of the signs that the Bible speaks to about the last days, are happening right in front of us. But it is imperative that we know what the Bible says. Do you want Jesus to come to you and say, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken? That was a rebuke not an endorsement of their unbelief, Jesus lovingly showed them throughout the Old Testament all the scriptures pertaining to Himself.
They had heard these scriptures their whole life. But is was difficult for them to believe that, what was written in the Bible, was happening in the time they lived. It’s the same today. Believers have heard their whole lives what the Bible says, but it’s hard for them to believe it is happening in the day in which they live. The things that God says in the Bible has to happen just like He said they would. Why not today?
Isaiah 46:10 (KJV) (Please read the whole chapter)
10. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
Why can’t we believe today is the fulfillment of these prophecies that were spoken of 2 or 3 thousand years ago? They are going to happen, why not NOW? As you can see, we are no different then whose two disciples that Jesus met on the road. They were just living their lives and had thoughts about how things should happen. They had heard every Sabbath in the synagogues all these Scriptures about their Messiah. It was just hard for them to believe it wasn’t happening the way they thought it should happen. Just like us!
If you have been a Christian from childhood you may recall all the great victories of the patriarchs you were taught about in Sunday School. (David and Goliath, Samson and his strength, Daniel in the lions den, etc). Now do you really believe those “stories” happened? “But that was along time ago”, does God still do these things today? Yes, He still keeps His word, but we have become like those two disciples on that road. We have “thoughts about every day life” and the way things should be. Trying to figure out today and not seeing what the Bible has to say about our future. All the other things God has said are going to happen, why not today?
Believe the prophecies that haven’t happened yet, some of them are at this very moment shaping up on the world stage. Just believe the Bible. Be about our father’s business tell people how to be saved and tell them why we are in the last days.
The “end times prophecies” are upon us, let’s not be like the two disciples that Jesus rebuked and said to them “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken”! Please believe that we are privileged to live in these days, when these prophecies are being fulfilled. We are seeing them happen, right before our eyes. Have faith that God will take us through them and we will be with Him forever. Seeing these things happen, today, the way God said they would, should help us have strong faith moving into the future.
If you are not a Christian ask Jesus to save you and He will. Please don’t think you have time, because you don’t know when your last breath will be and then it is to late.
