Love of this world might mean something different to each individual. But what does the Bible say? We will explore a few verses from the Bible to see what it really says. Starting in1 John 2:15-17, these verses give us a very specific narrative of what the Bible says, about love of the world.
1 John 2:15-17 (ESV)
15. Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world. 17. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
Verse 16. For all that is in the world, the desires of the flesh, and the desires of the eyes, and pride of life, is not from the Father but is from the world. This verse tells us what love of the world is. Let’s try and explore other verses that are connected with this to further help us understand and hopefully we will not be guilty of these things any longer.
Another scripture that explains and gives us an understanding of what love of this world is, and what desires of the flesh are, is found in Galatians. It is very obvious from these verses that these things are evil and of course, not from God. We live in a fallen world where to do these things seems to be natural for most people. But if we belong to God, we cannot participate in these kind of things, and it is very obvious these things fall under desires of the flesh, desires of the eyes, and the pride of life.
In order to stop doing these things, we must repent and ask God to forgive us. If we find it difficult to stop doing them, then we must ask God to help us and of course He will, because he loves us. Here is the passage from Galatians.
Galatians 5:19-21 (ESV)
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
God will help every person that ask Him for He is merciful, He is kind and He is love. God’s not willing that any should perish, but all come to repentance. These next verses show how much God really loves the world.
Titus 2:11-14 (ESV)
11. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12. teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13. looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14. who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
This is what God wants for every person that is ever lived on the face of the Earth, but it’s up to us whether or not we want to accept Him. We have to decide to turn away from “the love of the world” and turn to Him. This does not mean it will be easy, because the world is against us, we have to decide to do the right thing just because it is the right thing. People in the world will not understand why we do the good things, they will persecute us.
Once you become a Christian, you are not of the world, you are of the kingdom of God. The world will not love you anymore, but God does. God knows everything, He knows what we will be doing tomorrow and the next day before it even happens for us. So let’s rejoice in God and serve Him with all our heart.
John 15:19 (ESV)
If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
John 17:24 (ESV)
Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
Ephesians 1:4 (ESV)
even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love
God has given every person that has ever lived this choice, take Him as your savior or live for yourself, you choose. If you chose Him, you are one of those that was chosen before the foundation of the world.
God knows everything and He knows everyone that will choose Him, so therefore they were chosen before the foundation of the world. Ask Jesus to be your savior and Lord and then serve him with all your heart. It really is that simple. Let you go with God and I’ll see you in eternity.
