Pain; What Does the Bible Say?
What is pain? Why do we experience it? Is there more then one kind of pain? I would like to reference three different kinds of pain, you can probably think of others. There is physical pain, emotional pain and spiritual pain that I would like to address. Pain, believe it or not is a gift from God. In the garden of Eden, when man sinned God’s pronouncement was;
“Gen. 3:16-17 (ESV)
16 To the woman he said,“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;
in pain you shall bring forth children.
Your desire shall be contrary to your husband,
but he shall rule over you.”
17 And to Adam he said,“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
and have eaten of the tree
of which I commanded you,
‘You shall not eat of it,’
cursed is the ground because of you;
in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
This was the mercy of God. Whenever our body gets hurt we experience pain and the pain level is according to the extent of the injury. If pain was not present, we could get cut, and depending on the severity of the cut we could bleed to death, if we didn’t experience the pain. There are many over physical pains we as humans experience.
Emotional pain is a little different. No one, but you knows it’s there. It comes in a few verities but it is at times very excruciating. Anxiety, depression and other effects can be some of the most debilitating to deal with. Modern medicine can really help with this. Most people ignore going to a Doctor because they feel theres a stigma about it. But it is very real and you can get relief. The death of a loved one is another pain we must endure and that can last a life time. But God can comfort you if you let Him.
Spiritual pain, this could be a hard one to recognize. But one aspect can be, in years gone by, God may have been asking you to do something and you either ignored Him or even just said no. Since then you have had something gnawing at your insides. You can’t quite put your finger on what is nagging at you. This is a very unsettling, and will continue until you get alone with God and ask Him what it is. When He tells you, you will immediately know that that has been your problem. This happens to Christian and non-christian alike.
The solution is to ask for forgiveness and repent. If its possible to make amends, do it. If it isn’t ask Him what He would have you do. Sometimes just going to Him with a broken heart and talking to Him about it will assuage the pain your having.
God is more merciful and forgiving then any of us deserve, but His love is more then any of us can comprehend. You must go to Him in the name of Jesus and He will listen and heal that hurt that you have been carrying around for so long.
Now comes the good part. One day, and I believe soon, Jesus is coming for His bride in what the Bible says is the “catching away” of the Church. We call it the rapture. When this happens all the Christians will receive their glorified bodies and go to be with Him forever.
The book of Revelation says in chapter 21 verse 4-5 (ESV)
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
There is NO pain in heaven, we will live all of eternity without any pain. But thats only if your a Christian, if your not, please get saved now. There is no time to wait, the Bible says in:
2 Corinthians 6:2(ESV)
For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
Just ask Him. He will not turn you away, it doesn’t matter what you’ve done, He will forgive and except you.
